and performed on Valentines Day all over the world in support of women who are victims of sexualviolence, is this year directed by incredibly talented Sophia Rojas. The opportunity to work with, and learn from, Sophia and a truly awesome group of young women is amazing. I am very moved by this experience. Please join us for the performance, and to support the cause of non-violence.
February 11, 12, 13. 7:00 PM, Alma de Artes, $12 or $10 for students. All proceeds go to shelters in Juarez and Las Cruces. Thank you for your support.

Autumn 2009
Harmony House has had a quiet and reflective summer, working the gardens, tending to some chores, but also reading, writing, painting, and quite a bit of resting – stopping, so to speak, to smell the flowers.
Now we gear up to offer a celebration of gratitude. In the midst of a suffering struggling world, there must be space to express gratitude as well.
In November Chris Sanders and Steve Smith will play for us, always evolving together and producing stunningly beautiful music. I will post the details to this event soon, but consider the possibility of the weekend before Thanksgiving, a nice Autumn afternoon, outdoor concert.
Otherwise in the music scene, I have been attending Michelle Valverde’s women’s drum circle/class on Wednesday evenings at 6:30 at Mikey’s Place. Awesome artists’ venue, awesome art going on there. We have had some hot drummings in there. All women, all or no musical levels of experience welcome. Sorry guys.
I did an amazing trip to Ghost Ranch in October. Photos are posted on this web site.
More soon – Happy Halloween!!

Brent and Steve Return!!
May 14, 2009
“Holy Cow. Thanks Judy.
Gregg”
I just had to post this response to Tuesday night’s performance. There were many similar ones, as 25 to 30 people sat awestruck by the music that evolved before our very ears. I called it a holy moment. Though instead of a holy moment it was a holy few hours, as one after another formerly anonymous (to me anyway) audience members got up with a guitar or a dobro, a drum or a beautifule voice and joined the collaboration on the Harmony House stage. And when Brent pulled out his sweet trumpet… Pure magic. I don’t know how else to describe it.
We have invited each of them back, STEVE SMITH AND BRENT MOYER, OF COURSE, and Kiki and Michelle, James Gier, Japhy Ryder, Yolanda Martinez…did I leave anyone out?
Wow. Harmony House owes a debt of gratitude to Steve Smith, who unfailingly and generously supports artists and their performances here and around the country. And thank you to everyone who supports music in the backyard and contributes to such a sweet community. A bow to each of you.
Judy

Brent Moyer and Steve Smith return to Harmony House! Brent is on tour and passing through on May 12. Fortunately for us, Steve Smith, who is on tour as well, will be in town that evening. So we’ll have a pickin’ party!
Brent and Steve will do a set, then invite folks up to do some playing. As Steve says, “Brent and Steve will perform a set and then there will be an open mic so bring your ax.” The event is BYOB and donations accepted for Brent Moyer. You are welcome to bring refreshments to share.
We will start at 7:00 on the backyard stage, weather allowing. If the wind persists, we will be comfortable indoors. RSVP’s greatly appreciated!
There is a great spark between these two musicians, true synergy. Some gigs are just too special to miss. We’ll look for you!
- Tuesday May 12 7:00 PM

La Moksha
“…the kirtan is an easy way for people to experience some freedom from the daily chatter of the mind. And while it is true that we can sing these chants in the solitude of our own home, there is nothing like the magic of chanting live with musicians and hundreds of participants-from kids to seniors-all adding their energy to the chant. People often say they feel “buzzed” for days following such a chanting experience.”

Las Alturas House Concert This Weekend!
Dear Friends,
Just a quick reminder of tomorrow’s house concert with Karen Mal! We still have seats available, so please join us! Also, you can RSVP for any of the upcoming events now – please mark your calendars!
Words are inadequate to describe the beauty and character of Karen Mal’s voice. Karen Mal sings. From raw sensuality to shimmering bell-like clarity, her voice is both tender and powerful, and as effortless as a waterfall. There’s a river that flows between Karen and her audience. It’s about love. The possibility and the unbearable beauty of it. Elusive and abundant at the same time. Karen’s songs cover a variety of folk and Celtic styles, accompanied by sweet playing on guitar and mandolin.
Suggested artist donation $15. Music starts at 7:00 p.m. Socializing from 6:00 p.m. Light refreshments provided, guests are welcome to bring wine or refreshments to share. Our evenings of music are magical for musician and audience alike. Reservations are required. Please contact Lee at 575-522-5197 or by e-mail at houseconcerts@comcast.net to reserve your spot.
