Community Health and Arts Sustainability Project

May 11, 2009: The latest on CHASP (described below)

  • The 1500 square foot garden space has been dug and amended with compost and soil!  We will be creating compost and water catchment systems this summer, maybe grow something, but mostly prepare for fall planting at the latest.
  • We are currently providing housing for our musicians in two houses, as well as the “Harmony House RV Pad” and a third space is being renovated.  As an absolutely beautiful adobe studio apartment, it is a perfect artist’s residence,  and will be available for rent full time.
  • There is currently an artist’s room for rent in the Mesquite house with a private bath and kitchen access.  Inquire through Judy Harmon at judyk4@gmail for more information.

CHASP (Community Health and Arts Sustainability Project) is a long held vision which is manifesting in the historic district in Las Cruces, New Mexico.

CHASP’s purpose is to model holistic sustainability by focusing on the areas of health, arts, community development, economics and environment. Included are community gardens, multiple music and art venues, office space for non-profits, short or long term residence for visiting artists and health and arts education and practice.

CHASP will employ community members (neighborhood) to implement various and diverse aspects of the project, from design to build to maintenance, and will develop and preserve education and culture for surrounding community members.

Stay tuned!
